What to see

that 1:100 scale model - on the normal route?

Architecture nerd question. I read about the new 1:100 model because it apparently shows parts of the building most visitors never enter. Is the model itself on the normal visitor route, and is that basically the point of it?

Think “see how the machine fits together”, not “this gets you backstage”.

Yes, the model is part of the visitor experience. Its value is exactly that: it helps you understand the building as a whole, including backstage/service areas you do not physically walk through on the normal route.

Old buildings over beaches, always. I'll happily stand in one room for twenty minutes if the ceiling deserves it.
